One of the reasons I chose this photo was because of the deeper meaning that it portrays. As you look at the image the first thing that comes to the viewers eyes is the town in rubble, but after looking at the image longer you can see a city in the background. This leads me to believe that the people of this town are struggling, but there is an entire town of people with a safe place to live. I also chose this photo because there is smoke coming off of the rubble, which shows that this fire recently happened.
There were many things about this photo that interested me. The first is that the subject contrasts very greatly with the background. The focal point of this image shows a part of a city that was destroyed by a fire and is essentially wiped out, while in the background there is a city that appears to be unharmed. Another factor in this image is the horizontal division used. On the bottom part of this image there is the destroyed city, while the top is the unharmed city. This conveys a very depressing mood because the smoke shows that this city was recently destroyed, and that whoever lived there has nowhere to go anymore, while the city in the background seems untouched. The second thing that interested me about this image is the variety of lines that attract your eyes in many different directions. Another thing that interested me was the black and white. Although all of his images are not in color, with this image in particular it adds to the somber mood.
